• I learned the difference between what an impairment,disability, and handicap. I thought that they were one in the same.
• I learned that special education technology has been a part of the U.S. educational system since 1879 when a donation was made produce Braille materials and in 1958 when funding was given for adding captioning to films for the deaf. I hope that this keep improving.
• What the difference between assistive and instructional technology and what different purposes they use in the class.

chapter 4

3 new things

• "At one time, creating and searching databases was a popular strategy for teaching students organization, research, and study skills and for demonstrating how information is organized to serve various important functions in our society" (pg. 113, Edu Tech)


• What Open-source software is...source code is avaible in the public domain i.e. Open Office


• Max's Toolbox that you could use with younger or students who have trouble understanding Mircrosoft Office

2 things in class

• Microsoft Office programs: word, excel, powerpoint... when using word I will stress to my students to use RTF format, excel I will use for grades and notes for students and parents, powerpoint I would use for lectures and allow my students to use as a presentation tool.

• How to apply teaching the keyboard in class without making it into a typing class. I find knowing the keyboard is important to students. It was one of the best things I did for myself in highschool.

Three things I learned...

Robinson and Roland's four reasons for linking the goals of a school arts program with rapidly developing instructional technologies: expanded modes of expression, literacies for the Information Age, creative approaches to modern problems, and arts as aesthetic balance.

The use of programs such as Hyperscore, that allows student not to know how to read sheet music.

The five challenges of meeting standards in Art instruction

MIDI for older students who know how to read note music and Hyperscore for younger students to excite them about music

Three new things I learned

• That Paul Black and Dylan Williams found that students taught by teachers who used assessment in the classroom learned faster, six to seven months compared to a year.
  
• Five broad strategies and the different suggestions under each of the in-depth categories: i.e. Engineer Effective Classroom Discussion-use of dry erase boards.
• The hinge question-the question asked midway through the unit or lesson to gauge where the students are.

Two Things I could use in the classroom

• I would use the different techniques applied in Engineer Effective Classroom Discussion to gauge my students and to also involve all of my students.
• Implore the Provide Feedback That Moves Learners Forward by giving feedback but no grades.

One thing I would like to learn more about

1. The feedback instead of grades idea. At the end of that section it states that the teacher had to have permission to do that, but I did not understand why.
